During the new program period 2014-2020 new opportunities in the area of researches and innovations reveal.
The Bulgarian research institutes , universities, innovative private companies, small and medium sized enterprises may apply to the HORIZON 2020 program whose total budget is around EUR 80 billion. It combines the former programs and instruments that had been financing researches and working out new technologies.
With this program is basically aimed to be ensured the competitiveness and welfare of Europe in a large scale, to support growth and create new workplaces in EU. The program connects researches and innovations as offers simplified access to financing for companies, universities, institutes from all the EU countries and other countries. It facilitates the mutual activity of public and private sector for innovation generation and ensures simplified administrative procedures.

In the framework of HORIZON 2020 program will be financed with priority researches of leading scientists and scholarships for young researchers from ”Maria Sklodovska Curie”; support to the leading positions of European industry in areas like IT, nanotechnologies, refined industry technologies, robotics, biotechnologies and space; innovative projects in reply of basic public challenges: health care; agriculture, maritime and bio economics; energetic; transport; actions over the climate, environment, recourses efficiency and raw materials; thinking societies, safety.
